Studio Arts | Unit 1

OVERVIEW

In this unit students focus on developing an individual understanding of the stages of studio practice and learn how to explore, develop, refine, resolve and present artworks. Students explore sources of inspiration, research artistic influences, develop individual ideas and explore a range of materials and techniques related to specific art forms. Using documented evidence in a visual diary, students progressively refine and resolve their skills to communicate ideas in artworks.

Students also research and analyse the ways in which artists from different times and cultures have developed their studio practice to interpret and express ideas, source inspiration and apply materials and techniques in artworks.

AREAS OF STUDY

There are three areas of study:

  1. Researching and recording ideas

  2. Studio Practice

  3. Interpreting art ideas and use of material and techniques

VCE Study Design

UNIT ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed on individual studio process and presentation of final artworks. Students also research and analyse a number of different artists and artworks.

Studio Arts | Unit 2

OVERVIEW

Development of an individual studio process exploring your own ideas and the creation of at least one final artwork. Written research and analysis of artist and their artworks focusing on different styles and ideas being communicated.

N/A

  • Exploration of studio practice and development of artworks.

  • Ideas and styles in artworks.

VCE Study Design

UNIT ASSESSMENT

Students will complete an individual studio process and present final artwork.

Students will also research and analyse a range of artists and artworks.

Studio Arts | Unit 3

Students write and use a statement to define an area of creative exploration.
Students investigate a range of sources of inspiration and materials and techniques to convey their ideas.

Student explore professional art practices of artists from different historical and cultural contexts in relation to particular artworks and art forms.

PREREQUISITES

Preferable Studio Arts Unit 1 and 2

  • Exploration proposal
    Students write and use a statement to define an area of creative exploration.

  • Studio processes
    Students investigate a range of materials and techniques to convey their ideas.

  • Artists and studio practices
    They explore professional art practices of artists from different historical and cultural contexts in relation to particular artworks and art forms.

VCE Study Design

UNIT ASSESSMENT

  • 30% SAT (Folio)

  • 5% SAC (Written)

Students create an individual studio process exploring their chosen theme and concepts.

Students also research and analyse 2 artists from different historical and cultural background.

Studio Arts | Unit 4

OVERVIEW

Students complete a written and visual studio process refining and resolving their ideas into two final artworks.

Student will complete a written SAC analysing art industry context.

End of Year Exam

PREREQUISITES

Preferable Studio Arts Unit 1 and 2

AREAS OF STUDY

  1. Production and presentation of artworks
    In this unit students focus on the required to develop, refine and present artworks.

  2. Evaluation
    Students reflect on the production and resolution of their artworks.

  3. Art industry contexts
    Students examine environments for the presentation of artworks – researching and visiting a wide range of gallery spaces in Melbourne.

Students write and use a statement to define an area of creative exploration.

Students investigate a range of sources of inspiration and materials and techniques to convey their ideas.

Student explore professional art practices of artists from different historical and cultural contexts in relation to particular artworks and art forms.
